Talking with the folks in the local #vintage / #retrocomputing community, they clued me in that the #ThinkPad #RAID is a steaming pile of 💩 and not worth the trouble.

🤷 Oh well. Thanks for cluing me in

So I swapped out the two testing #NVMe drives I was using and reinstalled the original sticks - to have #windoz10 demanding for the #bitlocker recovery key. 🤦‍♂️

Well, time to wipe & install #windoz11 then.

Install went fine, only 4 rando #drivers to find for all #devices to be recognized and working.

Using my #CTT scripts to install the majority of applications, then to remove the #spyware #bloatware and other garbage #micro$oft added to #windows11

Then migrate my #data from my other ThinkPad. Welcome to my #sunday #funday

Ok, I spent yesterday afternoon trying to get #RAID configured on my #lenovo #ThinkPad #P70 - to no success.

I found this video youtube.com/watch?v=AyCC1NGe8a of the similar #p50 and configuring #RAID which shows the #BIOS interface but my P70's only show the "non-raid physical discs" I do not have an option for RAID volumes. Note I have upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version on lenovo's web site. Any thoughts?

I have attached 2 #screenshots of what the BIOS displays - I'm trying to configure the RAID on the two 512GB #NVMe sticks.

Yesterday's fallow canal section was a 10-minute walk. Half already has the water restored. The weir (in the previous post) is in good shape because volunteers worked on it. The dry canal bed still looks bad. See the photo ALT text.

What's involved to undo a 1950s decision to stop maintaining a canal, sell off adjacent land, fill it in, and build roads on it? You can read about the challenges on the work-crew blog:

A photo of a construction site: a lot of reddish dirt with a trench dug through it, and a few sections of brick wall. That's where the canal was. The equipment in the trench – a yellow portable cement mixer and a green portable water tank – indicates the small scale of the project. This is being restored by hand. It's a labour of love that will give Lichfield a linear aquatic park, with trees, benches, and a towpath for walking and cycling on.

I work as a #sysadmin and whilst this may not sound exciting, it's kinda necessary, as one's the #janitor, #cleaner, garbage collector, #maid and #librarian together.

So yeah, #documentation, #backup & #restore ain't exciting but they need to fucking work, so in the worst case one can just follow the checklist of instructions.

  • It's like firefighting: You learn, train and stay prepared so that there ain't casualties at all...
