SWC stands with Ranjani Srinivasan, a #rankandfile member who had her visa revoked without warning and was hounded by ICE in her #Columbia housing without a warrant. Columbia then terminated Ranjani’s enrollment and caused her to flee the United States.

In the Pittsburgh Labor Choir we’ve learned that songs have their greatest power when everyone is participating, not just listening. When the crowd takes the responsibility for chanting, or the whole assembly sings together, we feel our collective power. We may still be grieving and scared, but we’re also filled with hope. From rhythm, to morale, to endurance—to victory. What makes a chant or song good for large-group participation? Making it consistent and predictable makes it easy for people to join in.

Labor Notes · International Solidarity Is the Union Answer to Tariffs and DeportationsUnited Auto Workers President Shawn Fain has recently expressed the UAW’s readiness to “work with Trump on trade.” Teamsters President Sean O’Brien spoke on a podcast against “illegal immigrants that come into our country to commit crimes and steal jobs.” But based on my experience, in the long run, international solidarity is the only way we can build working-class power. Demagogues like Trump have often exploited the protectionist and anti-immigrant sentiments that have been widespread in American labor for generations. A working class that is divided, both within the U.S.

22 Feb 2018, 20,000 #educationworkers in West Virginia walked out on a #wildcatstrike protesting against low pay and the inferior health insurance scheme.
#RankandFile teachers organised themselves in defiance of the law and their own #unions. They shut schools in all 55 counties, affecting a quarter of a million students.
March 6 2028 teachers and other state employees got a 5% pay rise.
