Impatient me wants to run #Debian #Trixie as an #LXC in #Proxmox but the Trixie template isn't out yet. This post explains enough about what's going on that I was able to download a template from linuxcontainers.org and then spin it up. The main twist is in getting the network bootstrapped. Since my setup uses static addresses, it was a bit different, but it was enough to get me started.

@Mawoka 2 proxmox hosts, clustered. Most docker workloads are installed in 1 VM that I live migrate to the other host when updating proxmox. These services are not that critical, so no biggy if they're unavailable for a few minutes while I upgrade them or the VM they're running on.
DNS is the big exception. This is handled by 2 LXC containers, one on each proxmox host. I installed unbound and pihole on each LXC. The configuration is synced from the main node to the backup node through nebula-sync. HA between these LXC's is handled by keepalived, so they share a floating IP that is reassigned to the other node when the main node goes down. Downtime is maximum 1 second.
Another exception is my samba4 active directory. The primary DC runs on the VM in proxmox and I have a second (very small) VM on my NAS that runs the backup DC.
So DNS and Active Directory have higher availability, the rest not so much. #selfhosted #proxmox #pihole #samba #homelab
Notes for August 1-10
I got COVID again this week, which made it a hard slog to go through work hours (which I trimmed a bit) and pretty much impossible to do anything. And yet, I sort of persevered.(...)

Dear #family #homelab'ers: When do you update your shit? For me, updating #Proxmox means no internet in the home and no #HomeAssistant. How do you handle that shit? Wait until everyone is at sleep and hope the night doesn't get too long? Randomly during the day hoping nobody will complain/notice?

I've got #ProxMox with #Frigate up and running across 16 #Amcrest cameras.
The #HomeAssistant integration isn't setup yet because I had weird things happen when I started adding the secondary streams like I had gotten working with one test camera before (using the "detection" stream on a second instance of a camera with higher resolution to feed Home Assistant to take snapshots).
So I guess I'll have to figure that out again...
Everyone thinks this is a NAS. I don't. It's a low power Proxmox LXC Server and it's awesome!
Just finished upgrading my 3 node cluster to #proxmox version 9.
Smooth sailing so far, only minor hickup when my "primary" node forgot how to boot.
Quick fix enforcing legacy boot, since I'm not yet using uefi on that machine..
Okay, if you're using #Proxmox , make sure you just use the defaults. I tried upgrading my cluster to 9.0, and apparently you can't do that if you didn't format the drive with zfs. I used btrfs because I figured why waste the ram on zfs when I'm not storing vms on the local disk?
Can't even boot into rescue mode -- it doesn't have the logic for btrfs. I could probably fix it, but I don't want to learn that much about grub. I already know far more about grub than I want to. It's easier to just reformat new.
