Around 1,000 games and social apps are using software from Alphonso to monitor users through their microphones and collect data about their environment even when not in use.

It's one of several Auto Content recognition Software available, which have been covered before as in wide use by various smartTV's. Audio samples are hashed into digital signatures and compared to commercial audio content for targeted advertising.

This bothers me. A lot.

Is it an ad?
Is Volvo tracking me and making a suggestion based on where I've gone previously?
Is it a location-based suggestion?

None of these questions have answers that don't anger me.
