I really don’t understand Linux power management.

No distro I have used can properly sleep/wake my system. Unless I shut off sleep and run balanced power and turn the screen off it just kills itself after its inactivity period.

It’s frustrating to have to reboot every time I want to touch my system.

Any suggestions? No motherboard power options I can find and #linux #powermanagement

I'd want Nautilus (and thus the #GNOME file picker UI) to stop trying to search multiple times per second while I am not nearly done typing the search query, as I consider that to be extremely wasteful, conceptually. Pounding the CPU+GPU "faster than I can think & type" is counterproductive.
If you don't "feel the jank" like I do, then think about the wasted energy (especially on battery power):

Do you remember me talking about this wonderful article? the one where you are taught in detail with source snippets how Linux goes bye-bye when it goes to sleep?
The article has so much in-depth details that it takes a lot of time, considerable inteligencia & knowledge to process. Contrary to others I will not only say it, I will explicitly state it is fascinating and a heavy read.
