Building AI and huge data centers in the desert is WILDLY ignorant and misdirected behavior. It's almost as if the people who build and design these things don't even consider naturally cool or water rich places. They don't even try. I mean, if ya gonna build something that needs ALL THE WATER, then why not build it where water never stops? Nevermind. Don't you dare touch the rainforest and shorelines. How 'bout we just shut it down altogether?
Not being accountable to resources IS the downfall of humanity. I have never had a question or bout of loneliness so deep that I am willing to turn to chatgpt and away from the resources that we depend on for ACTUAL life: water, air, land.
The people who continue to push Capitalism as "the way" are actively going against what is best for people and planet. There is NO ethical consumption under #capitalism We MUST return to reciprocal, nurturing relationships with the land and each other, as indigenous cultures have for generations. #mutualaide #offgrid #generalstrike #conservation #permaculture #solarpunk #community

Hello wonderful beans of the fediverse!

We are still building out the #vulpibus while living on the road.

Let's see if we can afford some food, pay off some major bills and get some more much needed 100Ah bluetooth LiFePO4 batteries to stabilise our summer power usage. Maybe also some HRT meds...?

Texting Through Bluetooth 📱

If you are ever in need to get in contact with friends and family in your area without the use of cell towers, one way you could do it is through Bluetooth.

While this tech might seem odd to need when you can message someone over the internet or cell signal, there are situations (like natural disasters), where having one of the apps could save your life.

Part 2 of my FreeCAD learning series is up!

Went from "how hard could it be?" to actually making progress on my solar-powered Terminal Dawn enclosure. This week: wrestling with the Move/Array tool and discovering the magic of Trim Edge in the sketcher.

Spoiler: FreeCAD and I are in a complicated situationship 😅

Includes a step-by-step breakdown of the Array workflow that works.

Terminal Dawn · Freecad Series Part 2FreeCAD and I are in a complicated situationship

I've been getting used to using vinegar and water as a cleaner.

It's kind of magic.

I still go inside to wash all my dishes the usual way. But the daily use dishes that I was using parchment and paper plates to keep clean, I'm mostly now just using normally, then spritzing with vinegar solution and wiping with a small paper towel. No water needed.

And I just cleaned my counter to the same way.

Still using some (but not much) paper towel.

The thing is, there's no rinsing.

And the paper towels go to compost.

So, I'm now living in an off-grid cottage. Expoloring #9front on pure solar power. #knitting for leisure & survival. Gathering herbs, mushrooms and checking out wood to keep me warm in winter.

Complete with a composting toilet, fireplace and kitchen with windows to see all the birds chirping in the forest outside. Oh, and a wooden bathtub. Gotta mention the wooden bathtub! So, nice gay yay for the little me!

There are cheaper (under US$1k) partial #OffGrid options...

#Solar "generators" can be powered off a sunny backyard or porch, providing backup power to charge phone, laptop, internet router, or other smallish things. They are pretty much solar appliances!

Also, an off-grid trailer, RV or #TinyHome with solar panels and batteries does not require the same degree of regulation for a #DIY option, though obviously the regulations have reasons, so be careful and cautious!

Remounted and enlarged my solar array in Cottenham this week. The older wood frames really suffered in the winter storms so I ended up putting concrete posts in the ground bolting through them to heavy timbers and mounting the panels on unistrut. Panels optimised for winter.

Hopefully this will give me a long life.
