SSPL - non #OSI (Server Side Public License) is a source-available license introduced by #MongoDB and later adopted by Elastic for $Elasticsearch and Kibana starting with version 7.11. It is based on the AGPLv3 but with a modification in Section 13. This modification requires that if you offer the software or a modified version as a service to third parties, you must release the entire source code of the service, including all related management software, APIs, and other components needed to run the service, under the SSPL. This is a stricter requirement than typical open-source licenses.
I wrote a short blog post on how to identify timestamps on LinkedIn in digital investigations https://maynier.eu/blog/2025/08/02/timestamps-and-linkedin/ #OSI #OSINT
In case you missed it, great post by Dan Lorenc on why it's critical to defend all the dimensions of the Open Source Definition, and why @osi 's work is essential in preserving the enormous value that open innovation created #opensource #osi

ETHZ and EPFL announced the release of a Large Language Model (LLM) developed on public infrastructure: Trained on the “Alps” supercomputer at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) in 8B and 70B parameters configurations, using open-source training data, respecting web crawling opt-outs during data acquisition, and natively fluent in over 1000 languages. Quoting: "The model will be fully open: source code and weights will be publicly available, and the training data will be transparent and reproducible".
I don't know how good it's going to be, but if true for me this is the real definition of "open-source" in AI (not the ridiculous, corporate-promiscuous definition by the Open Source Initiative).

Grassroots efforts that ask for unredracted election results, that the @osi and @ed are ghosting the community from (https://codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/election-results-2025).

#OSI #OSS #OpenSource misses the point.
@fsfe @kirschner When will you comment on the 2025 rigged election (https://codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/election-results-2025) by the @osi and @ed ? #OSI #FOSS #FLOSS
Or is being transparent and taking responsibility a think that you do when it suites you ...
@osi "The OSI is the authority that defines Open Source, recognized globally by individuals, companies, and by public institutions." -- not until you publish the election results, and stop ghosting your community.
https://codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/election-results-2025
#OSI is corrupt. #FOSS #FLOSS #FreeSoftware #OpenSource
#OpenSource is worth investing in: for cybersecurity, for people, for businesses, and for the economy.
As the #EU prepares its budget for the upcoming years, the #OSI has teamed up with OFE, Github and others to call for a European #SovereignTech fund
@osi But when will you publish the unredracted election results? https://codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/election-results-2025 @rakulang and #Perl foundation, @gnome with the rest of the #FOSS #FLOSS #OSS community demand that you publish them, why the silence? Several former #OSI directors too .. and #OSI members.
Really glad to see the #OSI's efforts highlighted here.
I worked as a Parliament staffer during negotiations on the #CyberResilienceAct, and can say with confidence that if it weren't for OSI, it's educational work, and its efforts to connect lawmakers with Open Source developers, the CRA would have been extremely harmful for the #OpenSource community.
@osi Did you inform these 50 maintainers of how you refuse to publish the unredracted 2025 election results? That hundreds of #FOSS hackers have signed a petition for you to do so, including several foundational organizations -- @gnome @debian? https://codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/election-results-2025 #OSI #OpenSource #OpenSourceInitiative
@mikemcquaid Can you help putting pressure on the @osi to publish the unredracted 2025 election results that the #OSI have refused to publish despite calls from the #FLOSS #FOSS #OSS community? https://codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/election-results-2025 the #OpenSourceInitiative has published the results since the start, but this year they refuse to be transparent in their election process. @downey @richardfontana @bkuhn
@ed Will you publish the unredracted election results at this meeting? How can the community trust you when you refuse to even address the topic? https://codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/election-results-2025 #OSI #OpenSource #FOSS #FLOSS
@osi Keeping the election results secret is not grounded in Open Source principles. When will you release the full unredracted results? #OSI #OpenSource #FOSS #OSS
@osi Where are the election results? You keep posting self accolades that have nothing to do with you, but refuse to post what you have always posted. https://codeberg.org/OSI-Concerns/election-results-2025 #OSI Misses the Point. #OpenSource #FOSS #FreeSoftware
190 #OpenSource community members have called upon #OSI to reveal the full election results they've been hiding from voters and the public.
Will you join in? The organizers are still accepting pull request and email signatures.

Why is the @fsfe not commenting about the recent election of the @osi?
@kirschner why aren't you holding the @osi accountable?
