Network effect means that the value of a service or product grows as its userbase grows. Good examples are social media services and messaging systems. As more and more people are on the platform, it becomes increasingly difficult to leave without losing something that is of value to you due to #networkeffect.

There are #XMPP and #Matrix, the "ancient" and "obvious" #FOSS choices. I've never used them but from what I've read, they were never able to gain much market share and are...

• They became the go-to #MVNO for all (German) #Millenial|s (as #kids) due to offering a internal flat and 200MB if data for €2,99 which was a Sony-style chad move and got them 15M active SIMs in the first year alone!
