Luxon: What I will say to you is I was never going to listen to what the public had to say anyway
This is what happens when you back yourself into a corner through bad political judgement. You keep a divisive issue alive, you make a lot of people really angry by denying their voice, and you corrode confidence in the political system. Way to go Luxon. What a complete embarrassment of a PM.
Politicians and media are constantly talking about living in a “more volatile world”. Just a platitudes with no detail.
Can somebody please explain the specific threats that are greater now than they have been in the past?
It seems like we are jumping of the cliff because other countries are doing it... or we are being told to by our ‘allies’.
The country making biggest threat to global stability right now is the US, are we going to go to war with them?

in which we see, once again, just how concerned about ‘principles’ this government actually is:

more information on the clearly ideological conservative government's changes to New Zealand school curricula:
three Te Pāti Māori MPs who performed a tense haka in the New Zealand Parliament during the first reading of the racist Treaty Principles Bill last year say they are refusing to attend a hearing with Parliament's Privileges Committee over concerns their "fundamental" legal rights are being ignored.
a queer New Zealand MP for the Green Party who uses they/them pronouns is getting death threats, and one of the conservative coalition government's most prominent cabinet ministers may have been a part of the problem
"So, really what we're experiencing from a board level, from a teaching level, from a leadership level is a total whitewash of Te Tiriti out of education,"
— Bruce Jepsen of Te Akatea, the Māori principals' association

Shane Jones wants to make changes to the Fisheries Act.
They are great for the fishing industry, but not good for those of us who want healthy oceans.
One of the lowlights is removing access to footage from Cameras on Boats, reducing transparency and accountability of the commercial fishing fleet.
Submissions are open until April 11, and we want you to have a say!
So we made a handy tool to build a submission in no time!

A major part of why New Zealand has bad infrastructure is the political culture is highly sensitive to capital expenditures and generally ignorant of operational expenditures. We can see this in the ferries - Everything is about reducing CapEx in the port. The implications of smaller vessels and outmoded infrastructure on OpEx just aren’t being considered.
Oh, and can Labour please shut up about “hard working families”. Single people also have problems, and I tire of political messaging that ignores us.
I think my party sucks. Our policies were bad. I cancelled half of them. I’m endorsing the opposition cancelling more of them.
Something something hard-working families. Blah, blah, I was born in a former industrial district. Hur dur, tax policy.
Vote for me.
How does Hipkins expect to be elected if he isn’t willing to stand by the decisions of the previous government? These comments on the ferries are like the policy bonfire all over again. He looks weak.
For anyone not paying attention #NZPol political influencers who have been recently convicted for pedophilia include Seymour’s bestie and former #ACT Party president Tim Jago and Brian Tamaki’s Destiny Church youth leader Kiwa Hamiora-Te Hira yet apparently a non binary Green MP’s social media account has been presented as a national crisis by our government and its Trumpian sycophants.
