For #MountainMonday: A photo from way back in 2013: wildflowers and a view of the Tatoosh Range from Mazama Ridge in Mount Rainier National Park, Washington State, USA. While Rainier gets all the attention, I almost preferred photographing the Tatoosh during my trips down there.

Some purple and yellow wildflowers in the foreground with green small shrubs, small trees, and a few peaks of the tatoosh range in the background. This photo was made at sunset, so there is sunset light on the mountain peaks and one small ridge with trees on it, with a leftover patch of snow in the shadows of that ridge.

Monochrome image. A sunny day with a clear sky. We are looking out from rock cliffs atop a mountain. Several hundred feet below a portion of a lake is visible with the rocky face of another mountain rising precipitously from the far side of the lake. This mountain is taller than the one we are on. Much of the side facing us is sheer rock cliffs and the summit is also naked rock. There are also large swaths of forest along the slopes, mostly pines mixed with some leafless hardwoods.

July 22, 1983: I took my third and final break of the day about four miles past Neys Shelter at Auburn Lookout, the sole viewpoint from the Appalachian Trail all day. It was a rock outcrop hanging high above Port Clinton village and a long curve of the Schuylkill River Valley.

Beneath a deep blue sky with a few streaky clouds, we are standing high atop a mountain looking down into a sprawling valley. The view is framed by tall trees to our right and treetops below us. The valley is almost flat, with a few low hills. Just below us it is cut by a rather wide river with wooded banks that is spanned by a graceful single arch bridge. Just beyond the bridge is a small city with houses, parks and larger buildings. Beyond this city the valley is covered with farm fields and pastures, farm buildings and patches of forest. Some of the small hills are wooded, and there are narrow strips of trees as wind breaks between some of the fields. The air is relatively clear for summer, you can see for miles. A hazy line of mountains rises along the horizon, far in the distance.

A crisp October morning in the Pulju Wilderness Area, Finland, in 2023. I was surprised by snowfall during this hike and didn't have skis with me, which made movement sluggish and difficult. There was approximately 15-20cm of snow.

Gestern war ein kleiner Ausflug ins "Nachbardorf" angesagt. Abendrot und Föhnfische haben für eindrückliche Stimmung gesorgt. Balfrin, Riedgletscher und Nadelgrat vom Norden her gesehen.

Berglandschaft im Wallis: Blauer Himmel mit Föhnfischen über den Berggipfeln des Mischabel-Massivs. Die Berge sind noch eingeschneit, die Baumgrenze unterhalb ist dunkel-braun.

Abendrot über der Mischabelkette, gesehen von Norden her. Man sieht den Balfringipfel, eingeschneit und vergletschert, als auch das Dirruhorn, Hohbärghorn und Stecknadelhorn, wie die Flanken von der letzten Sonne des Tages tief rot gefärbt sind. Im Himmel, über den Berggipfeln sind die Föhnfische ebenfalls ganz mystisch in sanftes Rot eingefärbt.

Opening a path for my pulka in the Pulju Wilderness Area, Finland, in 2024. Sometimes leaving your gear—especially in the winter—can be nerve-wracking. Even though the chances are slim, you never know if there might be a sudden storm or low visibility, leaving you stranded without your gear.

The last 10 days were wild:

- skied for ~36 hours across 7 days
- taught a Spanish woman how to ski
- tried climbing on overhanging glacier ice
- spoken to a girl with an impressive FIS rating
- almost accidentally visited mountain rescuers at Tuyuk-Su camp, at night with that Spanish woman
- helped a little French girl on a beginner slope while practising French
- hired an instructor for the first time in 14 years, and learned the carving technique
- had the first notable ski collision in 14 years of skiing, at my fault but it's mostly fine
- talked to many cool competitive skiers and trainers at the hostel
- bought lots of cool gear for myself and teammates at Decathlon's Nowruz -20% sale
- ate very little because restaurants are only open when slopes are open
