👋 Hi everyone!

I developed an Android app called JellyWatch to help you manage your Jellyfin server directly from your phone.

With JellyWatch, you can monitor active sessions, manage libraries, and perform basic admin commands wherever you are.

I’m open to feedback and suggestions to improve the experience.

Thanks for your support!

Just about finished setting up a second-hand Dell micro-PC as a home media server / file share. I now know considerably more about NFS, Avahi, DNS-SD, SSDP, UPnP, DLNA, NetBIOS, WSD, and SMB than I frankly want to 😅 Everything *should* be visible, auto-discoverable, and usable across Linux, Windows, and the Sony (Android) TV, now… And VLC on my phone, in theory. #linux #homeserver #mediaserver #nfs

Tired of streaming service fees? 💸

Jellyfin offers a FREE, open-source way to stream your media anywhere! Host your movies, shows, & music yourself. No ads, no tracking, just your content.

Manage it all from your phone, TV, or web browser.

A few weeks in with the new 10TB WD Red Plus drive in my Jellyfin machine — and what a difference!

Moved off a slow (dying) external USB, and now streaming is smooth, even at high bitrates. Skipping through 4K content is instant, and library scans don’t lag anymore.

Sometimes all it takes is one well-picked drive. Happy with the upgrade so far 😊

Migrating from a dying 4.5TB external drive to a fresh WD Red Plus 10TB. The old drive was crawling at 322 KB/s with I/O errors, so I made the tough call to abandon the 162-day rescue mission.

Cleaned up the case, installed the new drive, and rescued music from a working drive.

Rebuilding my entire library from scratch - downloaded 70 out of 700 movies. Sometimes hw failure forces the upgrade you needed anyway.

I'm curious to hear what others are #SelfHosting! Here's my current setup:

Hardware & OS

Infrastructure & Networking

Security & Monitoring

Authentication & Identity Management

  • Authelia (Docker): Just set this up for two-factor authentication and single sign-on. Seems to be working well so far!
  • LLDAP (Docker): Lightweight LDAP server for managing authentication. Also seems to be working pretty well!
    #AuthenticationTools #IdentityManagement

Productivity & Personal Tools

Notifications & Development Workflow

  • Notifications via: #Ntfy (Docker) and Zoho's ZeptoMail (#Zoho)
  • Development Environment: Mostly using VSCode connected to my server via Remote-SSH extension. #VSCodeRemote

Accessibility Focus ♿🖥️

Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (#ScreenReader), so I prioritize services usable without sight (#InclusiveDesign#DigitalAccessibility). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!

I've also experimented with:

  • Ollama (#Ollama): Not enough RAM on my Pi.
  • Habit trackers like Beaver Habit Tracker (#HabitTracking): Accessibility issues made it unusable for me.

I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here (#MediaServer)—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services! 😄

What's your setup like? Any cool services you'd recommend I try?

#Introduction time? I guess I've been here long enough.

Hey there, you've probably gleaned that my name is Chris. I live in #Canada where I'm trying to master the sport of #Curling, but when I'm not on the ice I'm probably rewatching some episode of #StarTrek.

I'm #Asexual, cis male, and very single. In the last year or so I started playing around with #Linux and run my own #HomeLab and #MediaServer.

I'm a huge believer in the #StrongTowns movement. Also I'm 90% sure I have undiagnosed #ADHD.
