I spend yesterday working on Return to the FATE GEAR. Not sure which character.

Mergaunt: everything including me goes up in flames.

Toriko: I have to convince her I I'm not a Otherside youkai. Which might be hard given that is what one might do.

Sorawo: same thing except we have to use DeepL to communicate. That is if I could convince her that it wasn't a cursed device.

If it is their universe I get to see Japan. Hopefully with papers forged by Toriko and Sorawo's associates.

@elysegrasso brought the Casablanca Test to my attention which made me think about perfect antags.

Ume fails the test big time, bringing catastrophe to the world. She is amusing, witty, and would be a good friend. She is not a black hat, but between her choices and the entanglement of fate and karma brings about a terrible ill. She isn't happy about what happens and takes responsibility for her share, but she would make the same choice again.

She's the one who chooses the greater evil or the personal evil. The Trolley meme below illustrates.

Mikawa: That Ume will steal Shishi away from her. Hint: She already has.

Takiyasha-tenno: That she will be trapped in Kakuriyo forever. It's already been over a thousand years.

Ume: I value it and tried to do it. It doesn't always work out that way, especially when you both think you're communicating but are talking about different things.

(I hear a lot of authors say they hate the miscommunication trope. So do I, especially in RL because it happens all the time, so why not in friction.)

Doesn’t apply. My story has been called claustrophobic because it is about 4 tightly knit individuals in a polycule. Occasionally allies they seek out appear on stage, but they are true allies. Everyone else is neutral or antagonistic.

Ume: I'm the poetic talker. Breadwinner using my back or my words as a writer. Everyone takes care of me. I'm the butt of most jokes, second best in wit matches. Hopelessly romantic and impulsive. I seldom plan things, but for some reason, I'm the family leader..

Kan-chan, Tomo I don't suppose either you would lead. Your better suited for it.

Kan-chan/Tomo: No you're stuck with the job.

I rely a great deal on Japanese folklore, urban legends, and creepypasta. My WIP is inspired by "The Peony Lantern," the big antag 3rd and 3th volume is Takiyashi-hime rebranded as Takiyashi-tenno.

Take out the folk bits, and all that would be left is a love story.,

Ume: Real Philadelphia-style "Philly Cheese Steak." I never got the chance while I was studying in Washington state; the closest I've gotten was a cafeteria equivalent. And I don't trust anything to be authentic in a Tokyo restaurant.

Miayoi-chan is a kitsune who loves dancing, singing, poetry, and playing pranks. She would be seen as less flamboyant by kitsune standards,, but she is still young (<400 yr.) and hasn't settled down to the more sedate wise status of a 5+ tail kitsune.

Of the MCs Shishi, an ex-idol and friend of Miayoi-chan is the next famboyant. It's part of what Ume loves about her.
