When you hear someone say that "AI is the future of search" as if it is a great thing, and a foregone conclusion, what they are actually saying is that the doors to any individual blog or website or resources are closing. The digital waypaths to finding sourced content directly are being shuttered and boarded up. That human search via multiple methods utilising various recommender systems is being removed. In favour of a single gateway to pre delivered materials all owned by private monopoly companies. And we are expected to react as if this is a good thing, the "future".

I have always wanted a Web-of-Trust based internet review system.

I want to be able to rate websites/pages for things like reliability/trustworthiness, or innovative thinking. And I want to be able to rate other reviewers as trustworthy. And then I want to be able to see website's reliability ratings, as aggregated across my web-of-trust.

I think now that LLM content is dominant and search engines have gone to shit, it is more critical than ever. I can't see how the internet can continue to be useful without something like this.

The Internet was good while it lasted. Its taken them about 30 years to fuck it up but we are getting there. Websites are now unusable due to the desire to track you and advertise at you constantly. If you refuse you get nothing in what is actually a bullying tactic. Information is stolen in vast quantities and then sold back to you. Next will come the requirement of your biometric data including a face pic so they know who and where you are at all times.
