The hype I am seeing for "refurbished" or "renewed" hard drives for NAS usage seems like false economy to me. These drives need to be a heaps cheaper than they are to be the bargain that youtubers and tech blogs are saying they are. Some of these drives have in excess of 10,000 power on hours. It's been spinning for over a year and you're paying 80% of the original price?!

Hey folks, my cranky old #Synology #NAS is getting full and I'm thinking about upgrades. I don't think I want to buy another commercial NAS and I have an AM5 motherboard doing literally nothing. Sny opinions on #unraid vs #truenas ? (I mostly use for #plex streaming and local backups) but may consider moving my #HomeAssistant install to the box too in the future). #homelab
I've been heads down for a while working on a huge update to Home Cloud and I just published a big milestone PR which implements a substantial portion of what makes Tailscale a $1.5 billion dollar business. This PR completes an end-to-end Wireguard tunnel which is fully peer-to-peer so that your Home Cloud server is accessible from anywhere in the world with full security and privacy.
On the one Pi, the Fluentbit log collector is going into a CrashLoop and on the other one, the cluster seems to have decided that it wasn't even worth the hassle to try to start it.
Yeah, it looks like running a k8s control plane on a Raspberry Pi 4 with an attached SATA SSD is a "nope". I don't even know what's going on, but I'm pretty sure my firewall should never, ever be seeing (and blocking) Pod subnet traffic.

Okay, authentik is up! Took a while, I was fighting against flux and the helm release because it deployed with the wrong StorageClass (I forgot to have that configuration ready before release.) Helm wasn't able to modify the PVC because they're immutable, updating the release has to wait for the initial release to succeed (which it won't) or timeout and flux is quiet on the reasons for all of this unless you know where to look 
Anyway, admin and personal user accounts created, MFA enabled. Got my first application integrated too! (actual budget)
What next? The world is my oyster... Probably gitea or semaphore. I'm hesitant to integrate services like jellyfin before I have more users onboarded and this gives me an opportunity to experiment with other edge cases like other providers and service accounts and such

The plan right now is to pin the Ceph MONs to the 3 existing CP nodes. Then I will add two of the Pis as CP nodes and move over two MONs. Then a full Homelab host reboot. And then I will move the last CP node, followed by another full Homelab host reboot.
The reboots are to make sure that nobody is using the old MON IPs anywhere. Plus, the netbooting part of my Homelab uses those MON IPs for its root disk.
