I’m having buyers remorse after getting the Framework 16” laptop.
- Windows sucks. I know I can get linux but having to figure out how to use wine + affinity, eGPU configuration and cloud storage is daunting
- it is sized like a tank, doesn’t fit in the laptop pouch of my Topo Design backpack, it is hard to find a laptop sleeve that fits

I noticed that my Framework 13 laptop with the AMD 7040 Series processor wasn’t lasting as long as I’d hoped. It turns out, I had a USB-A expansion card in the wrong slot!

So by moving my USB A card from slot 4 to slot 2. Under light use, the battery now seems to last the whole day.

Got my @frameworkcomputer FW13 in. HX 370, 128GB DDR5 5600, 4TB SN580. I'm running @fedora 42 on this one as well. Loving it so far. The build quality is awesome. You usually have to give that up when you want upgradeability, but not here. The transparent black bezel also looks a lot more classy than I was expecting. Glad I went that route. Still some sleep issues to work out, but it's been smooth otherwise. #homelab #fedora #framework #linux #flir

I am really enjoying my #framework laptop and I don't want anything else. Only two issues:
1. It kind of tends to overheat and slow down when I'm coding and the parser is working hard
2. There is some sort of bug, idk if it's the Linux or the HDMI module or what, but when it goes to sleep with the external monitor, the monitor doesn't always turn back on, so I have to open the laptop to wake it up. Sometimes even that doesn't work, and I have to do a hard reset. In general the HDMI is frustrating because the monitor doesn't come on until after the boot screen and the hard drive password. Since I'm almost always working at my desk it's kind of a hassle.

I'm glad companies like #FairPhone and #Framework exist. They're doing things in an unconventional way to provide long lasting, repairable, upgradable hardware to people who want that sort of thing.

If the federal government decided what types of phones and laptops would be produced, I highly doubt they'd be like what these companies make. They'd turn to a big tech company.

This is proof that companies can make durable goods today, in our current economic system. They are doing it. Right now.

@Erklaerbaer macbooks aren't a good start. It'll be attached to a usb network adapter constantly and also it's charger since the last generation intel macbooks have terrible battery life under Linux, and it'll throttle constantly since the last generation intel macbooks have a terrible power curve, something Apple kind of addressed with macOS.

If you want a easy place to start, get a #framework or a (older) #thinkpad would be my advice
