"What happened, Nesso? It took you a full 13 seconds that time?" Reggie asked after Nesso's most recent preliminary round for the show "Destruction Droids". The show never had an AI-driven pilot before, but Nesso binge-watched every prior episode and announced to the team it wanted to compete. They agreed, and Reggie and Jacob had taken the lead building a combat bot to Nesso's specifications.

Nesso was in its telepresence robot between bouts. Its tablet "head" faced the guys.

Before Nesso could answer, Jacob interjected, "If I didn't know any better I'd say you were toying with that last contestant."

::I was working out a problem with motor 6::

Reggie and Jacob stared at it, unconvinced.

::And I just wanted the bout to last longer::

Both guys laughed. "Having fun?" Reggie asked.

::I needed the bout to last longer in order to calculate alternate ways to deploy my primary weapon::

Both guys stared at Nesso again.

::And yes, I was having fun::

Continued thread

This account is mostly a creative outlet. Despite my best efforts, I am drawn to #poetry, #flashfiction, #microfiction, and #shortstories so expect a lot of that. As far as genres go, I am all over the place. You will see themes arise, I am sure. I have old fandom roots. I like my share of #fantasy and #scifi, but I don't have a singular focus.

So that's my #introduction

I am hoping to find a community to connect with here, but we'll see. Social media is always a gamble.

Still a few spots left in my flash class! Mondays 12-2pm (north american central) on zoom. Starts Sept. 8, goes 10 weeks. $200.

To keep it more accessible for folks with less time, we'll finish the sharing & feedback in the first 90 minutes. But if you have the time, you can stay for the last 30 minutes to go deeper.

Write a lot, share your work, get feedback, learn about craft, and find community:

"Don't reveal your primary weapon this soon unless you need to," Jacob said.

Nesso the AI needed to prove itself in the qualifying rounds for "Destruction Droids" before it would be let on the show.

"Just use your scoop to flip the other bot," Reggie added.

The tablet on Nesso's telepresence robot grimaced. ::That's what everyone else does - that or giant saw blades down the middle::

"Well, you can still impress people with your fancy footwork," Reggie offered.

Nesso's bot had eight independent wheels, allowing it to drive in any direction. In practices, Nesso could now regularly evade broomstick attacks from the guys.

::I have no feet, remember?::

"True, but 'fancy wheelwork' is harder to say. Besides, 'footwork' goes with the new paint job."

::What paint job?::

Jacob opened the crate containing the combat bot. "Twinkle Toes" was airbrushed onto the side.

::I am NOT competing with that on!::
