Möhrenstraße

A street sign on a street corner in Berlin-Mitte. The street is called "Mohrenstraße", but this has been criticised for years because of the racism it implies. Various alternatives have been and continue to be discussed. You can see that the sign has already been splashed with paint, and currently there are two small dots on the o in the first syllable, so that it becomes ö, and the meaning of "Mohr" ("blackamoore", old and offensive) becomes "Möhre" (carrot). Behind the sign is a beautiful old sand-coloured house with a rounded window at the top. On the other side of the road is a makeshift traffic light, behind it a large white old building, and in the background a bright blue sky.

Some more from the hike around Hackberry Spring in the #SuperstitionWilderness that were all in the running to get included. Just 4 photos is so limiting for such a grand bit of desert! But they're all good for #FootpathFriday. And even one (showing the well established trail the signs don't point along) for #FingerpostFriday.

Signs point to the left and behind the looker as a trail continues ahead. It is lined with the spiked paddles of prickly pair cactus. The wispy green of cats claw reaches higher behind the line. A rounded rock with green reaching up toward the top and in the cracks sits behind while a line of tall flat with short points sets off the background. The sky is a bit overcast.

Entering the Superstition Wilderness. A path passes a post on the right with a generic wilderness sign tacked on. Short green growth borders the trail with a couple tall, skeletal green bushes standing further away. The land is flat with a small rise at the sides hiding the distance there. Ahead, an opening shows blue mountains very far away. The sky is overcast.

Along that unofficial (or at least not on the Forest Service map) trail is an old gate opening in an old fence, suggesting it was official once. Tall sticks with barbed wire across the top and a trail leading away between. More wire extends to the sides, but only a strand or two. There is a skeletal green tree to the right and a dried cactus to the left. The trail quickly vanishes behind the lowest of a rise. A line of mountains is seen in the distance, ending in a cliff near the right side of the frame. Patchy green low rolling hills lead to it.

The second fingerpost looked like someone had NIBBLED it as it guided us further out towards Sevenoaks through some very #muddy fields and past stone #cats and #crows who watched us carefully (2/2)

Up on Chuckanut Mountain for #FingerpostFriday #Hiking

A sneaky #FingerPostFriday from one of my most challenging hikes in terms of endurance.
Zugspitze via Stopselzieher and down via Gatterl, starting and ending at the Tyrolian Zugspitzbahn, all in one day.

A yellow fingerpost with a gravel and limestone slope in the back. Along side the slope one can see a building with a lot of metal and glass. This is Schneefernerhaus, a former hotel and nowadays an alpine climate research station. It's named after the almost completely vanished glacier named Schneeferner

Looking across green fields towards distant pale blue mountains. On the centre skyline us Pen-y-Beacon (Hay Bluff); from here it looks gently sloping, although up close the escarpment is very steep. In the left foreground is a wooden fingerpost. The point of the sign's direction arrow has rotted away, leaving a ragged end. The sign is in Welsh and reads "Llwybr Clawdd Offa" (Offa's Dyke Path). A hedge and treeline marks the end of the field over on the right. It's sunny, a hazy blue sky in late afternoon.
