Shouldn't be an issue, should it? I hate interacting with empty profiles.

Philipp Compensis
Mein Mastodon-Erlebnis auf meiner Single-User-Instanz hat sich merkbar verbessert seit ich das #FediFetcher Skript laufen habe.
https://blog.thms.uk/fedifetcher

sb arms & legs
I finally got around to trying out #FediFetcher - it's all up and running.

I'm mainly hoping to increase the backfilling of comments on the many posts I read.

One of the "fun" features of running a small instance is not being able to see *most* of the replies on any given post. Typically I have to open the original post in the browser from its home server to see the comments. That... sucks, to put it mildly.

I'll report my observations in the coming days.

Paul Chambers🚧
Somehow, my #FediFetcher data got corrupted. When I was poking around why profiles and replies weren't being backfilled, to my surprise, the last time FediFetcher successfully ran was April 30. I've been using FediFetcher since it first came out and was released way back in the day with no issues.

It wouldn't run with the config file or by command line arguments.

The error I was getting was ""decoder.py", in raw_decode raise JSONDecodeError("Expecting value", s, err.value)....."

I decided to rename my artifacts folder and put my config.json file in a new artifacts folder and it started running normally again. #MastoAdmin

Michael
Following on from this, and the deafening silence from users I'm considering my options.

Could users of FediFetcher please respond to this poll so I can gauge how much of a problem this actually is.

If you have any other thoughts / comments / questions / details, please reply to this post.

Thanks!

#FediFetcher

Michael
Hey. If you are running FediFetcher as a GitHub Action I’d really love to hear from you.

As you probably know, the Action recently stopped working, and we need to find a solution to this.

Please have a read here, and let me know your thoughts, either by commenting on that GitHub issue, or by replying here:

https://github.com/nanos/FediFetcher/issues/198#issuecomment-2832055708

#FediFetcher

Ric Harvey 🇪🇺🌍💚
Hi #mastoadmin I'm having an issue on a single user (+some bots) instance. I get "Nothing is trending right now. Check back later!" on the explore posts and news pages. the hashtag page is working it seems. I'm using fedi.buzz relays, I have #FediFetcher working but still nothing is populating. Can anyone suggest a fix?

Michael
If you are running FediFetcher as a GitHub Action it is really important that you read this Issue as well, as it contains additional important information.

TL;DR: versions prior to 7.1.16 are no longer working when running as GitHub Action. Version 7.1.16 will cease working in approximately 60 days, unless we find another workaround. Please read and subscribe to the issue for more info.

https://github.com/nanos/FediFetcher/issues/198#issuecomment-2820574803

(If you are not running FediFetcher as GitHub Action, you are unaffected by this.)

#FediFetcher

Michael
Several people have asked me whether this makes FediFetcher obsolete. I thought I'd put out a more public response to this question:

Unfortunately I don't think I can retire FediFetcher just yet, as it still has some utility:

Firstly, FediFetcher can fetch context proactively without having to expand posts. (Eg one of my favourite features of FediFetcher is that it pro-actively pulls in replies to posts in my home timeline. I personally wouldn't really want to miss out on this.)

Secondly, FediFetcher can also backfill profiles - something that Mastodon is still unable to do, and, as far as I can tell, has no intention of implementing.

Thirdly, it'll likely still be a while until these changes are available in any released versions, and likely even longer until 3rd party apps have support for it.

I do hope it’s the beginning of the end of FediFetcher, but imo we are not there just yet!

Obviously other users of FediFetcher may have different opinions, and if - once this is released - you personally are happy with Mastodon's built in ‘on demand' context fetch, you should stop using FediFetcher to relieve pressure from your home instance.

#mastoadmin #fedifetcher

Michael
Looks like Mastodon is finally getting some built in functionality to fetch missing replies:

https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/32615

🥳

#mastoadmin #fedifetcher

Meerjungfrauengrotte
#FediFetcher ist ein Tool für Mastodon, das automatisch fehlende Antworten und Posts von anderen Fediverse-Instanzen abruft und sie Deiner eigenen Mastodon-Instanz hinzufügt.

Eine sehr praktische Sache also.

GO
ab und erlaubt der App den Zugriff auf Euren Account.

Den Access Token, den Ihr dann bekommt, teilt Ihr mir anschließend per DM oder (sicherer) E-Mail mit.
