Anybody know what's going on with https://gay.camera/? We've got a lot of posts that are backing up trying to be delivered to them. #FediAdmin #NSFWadmin #MastoAdmin
New blog post!
This time I talk about the two recent migrations I did with my data:
I migrated my main VPS from a US based VPS provider to @hetzner because I want to have my stuff in Europe.
The second one was the migration of this exact account from which I send this toot, I moved it from Fosstodon to my own GoToSocial instance which I am self-hosting on that Hetzner server.
I hope you will find it useful!

We should have a community fund to pay for therapy for all the Fediverse’s admins and mods
I'm not sure that the DARVO approach is the most successful way to respond to critique of a community's management, but I guess we'll find out. #FediAdmin #FediBlockMeta
Our 1000-active-user cap for FLOSS.social is still in effect, and will soon again be reached as we welcome a new wave of community members.
This number is determined as the mean (average) between the "active in last month" and "six months" from the data at: https://floss.social/nodeinfo/2.0
Small servers make for good communities and good federation.
does anyone observe problems with the hetzner's s3-compatible object storage, or is it only me?
@benny seems like there's a widespread issue with a bucket storage provider, Hetzner, especially the FSN1 region (Falkenstein, DE if my memory serves)
I'm not sure if this is the issue for your instance too but it sure is for ours :)
Popping #FediAdmin #MastoAdmin tags to get feedback from other admins too and pinging @EighthLayer
Did anyone ever try to move a GoToSocial instance between servers? I want to switch VPS providers, and move my GTS from one server to another, preferably not losing any data in the process. Can it cause problems with federation? My GTS instance uses a SQLite DB and an nginx reverse proxy.
@Curator Thanks for posting this. Blocked the domain. #fediadmin
Twoot Space admin announcement: we're going to be silencing Fosstodon (@fosstodon) for 30 days, during which time we'll assess the implications of their mod team makeup and any follow-up actions they take following the revelations linked below on a potential full suspension.
How problematic are split-domain setups for Fediverse instances? For example, running an instance at subdomain.example.com but having usernames like user@example.com? I know this is technically possible, but I'm seeing very few instances doing it, and I suspect there's a reason for it.
Background: I have a fun domain that I'd like to use for a new instance (and using it with a subdomain would be... less fun) but I don't want to run the server itself on the base domain, because I need that for something else.
I did some quick tests myself and the only problems I found were with some client software - e.g. Phanpy shows the wrong account name user@subdomain.example.com but despite that everything appears to work. Are there any show-stopper issues I might run into later?
Fediverse Statistik
Yo chooms, I've created some cyber-alien-tastic emotes again.
If you annoy your instance admin or your mods, they'll probably upload them to your instance!
A HEALTH-CHECK URL would, for example, make sure:
• the web-server is up,
• the database connection is fine,
• maybe query one or more important tables to make sure that still works,
• make sure any 3rd party APIs are working,
• etc.
If any of those things has a problem, then it would return "500 Internal Server Error".
Else (if everything was fine then) it would return "200 OK".
A lot of Fediverse software has a HEALTH-CHECK URL.
But not all Fediverse does.
It would be better if ALL Fediverse software had a HEALTH-CHECK URL.
...
A HEALTH-CHECK URL is a special URL that tell others if the system is running properly.
It would return "200 OK" if everything is fine. And return "500 Internal Server Error" if there is a problem
...
A HEALTH-CHECK URL is important to those who actual run and administrate Fediverse servers
Fediverse Admins, I need your input!
What fundraising/support platforms are you using to help support your instance financially? Are they meeting your expectations? Have you used a provider in the past and been removed from the platform or left because you weren't happy with their service?
I've done a bit of research and put together a comparison of a few different providers.

Alpacas seen on a walk today reminded me of one of my favourite mastodon admins @jerry !
As the admin of a 5 person hosted server, it often feels like we are left out of wider conversations. We don't see all comments from all users on posts of people we follow. Is there anything I can do as an admin to make sure we see as much content as possible? #Mastodon #Mastoadmin #Fediadmin #Admin
