When I look at this now, Jan 17, 2025 I think about what I got right & what I got wrong. I was right about how he would turn everything around to benefit him, but I didn't think about how he would use Trump hotels & Towers as a money maker. Nor his golf courses. All as a way to get money.
Remember when we learned the word #emoluments? Good times, good times.

Remember when #Emoluments were something we actually CARED about (and was SO concerning, the #FoundingFathers prohibited them IN THE #CONSTITUTION?)

The #GrifterInChief already violated The Emoluments Clause 9 Ways to Sunday in his first term, and his corrupt #SCotUS & #GOP let him get away with it during his first term, so *now* they aren't even *pretending* to be concerned about it. #CriminalPresidency #WeAreSoScrewed #ConvictedFelon

MSNBC · Open for business: Trump abandons pretense of ethics for second termBy MSNBC

EXPLAIN TO ME…

…how a #ConvictedFelon, #AdjudicatedRapist, #racist, #misogynist, #ToxicNarcissist who quoted #Hitler, hosted a rally that mirrored the 1939 American #Nazi Party rally in #MSG, declared he'd be a #DictatorOnDayOne, stole HUNDREDS of #ClassifiedDocs, violated the #Emoluments Clause over 100x, and ignored a #pandemic that ended up killing 500,000 Americans by the time he left office, get reelected based on an economy HE destroyed??? 🤨

Oversight Democrats’ New Report Proves Trump Used His D.C. Hotel to Take Unconstitutional Domestic Emoluments, Fleecing the Taxpayers

The report is based on a limited set of records—hotel guest logs covering just 11 months at a single one of Donald Trump’s more than 500 business entities—produced by Mr. Trump’s former accounting firm, Mazars USA LLP, before Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, working with attorneys for former President Trump, slammed the door shut and blocked Committee Democrats from obtaining additional records pursuant to a Committee subpoena and court-supervised settlement. Giving new meaning to the term “petty cash,” most of the payments made in the time frame discussed in this report were small—and their cumulative total is just over $300,000—but these transactions provide a glimpse into the wide array of unlawful and unethical transactions, including flat-out violations of the Constitution, that characterized Donald Trump’s methodical exploitation of his presidency for moneymaking purposes.

The Committee on Oversight and Accountability Democrats · Oversight Democrats’ New Report Proves Trump Used His D.C. Hotel to Take Unconstitutional Domestic Emoluments, Fleecing the TaxpayersWashington, D.C. (October 18, 2024)—Today, Rep.

The latest findings are a follow-up of a staff report released by the Democratic staff on the Oversight Cmte earlier this year that documented $7.8 million #Trump received from ≥20 foreign governments, including #China, #SaudiArabia & #Qatar, through just 4 of his businesses over a 2-yr period while he was president.

The Washington Post · Report: Trump businesses received $7.8 million in foreign payments during presidencyBy Jacqueline Alemany

Despite #Republican control of the #House, #Democrats have sought to train public attention on the #emoluments issue as #Trump has sought to regain the presidency. The #money that Trump & his family businesses took in from government sources while he was in the White House — despite his promises to “drain the swamp” — create “the appearance of #corruption & pay-to-play,” Democrats argue in the report.

Before #Republicans took control of the #Jouse in early 2023, #Mazars had begun producing documents in response to a congressional subpoena, turning over a subset of records to #Oversight Cmte #Democrats, led by Rep #JamieRaskin. But when Republicans assumed control the new Cmte chair, #JamesComer (R), ended the investigation into #Trump’s alleged violations of the #emoluments clause, declining to enforce a #CourtOrdered agreement that Mazars produce evidence related to Trump’s business dealings

#EricTrump, the #TrumpOrganization’s exec VP, has repeatedly disputed claims that the family business profited from #SecretService stays at #Trump properties & said that the company often gave the Secret Service agents the hotel rooms free of charge or at steeply discounted rates.

However, piecemeal expense records congressional investigators have obtained over the past 4 years have contradicted Eric Trump’s claims.

During another visit by Eric Trump to the DC hotel at the end of the month, on Feb 27, 2018, the agency paid for a $595 room…. That rate is far above the government-approved nightly rate for a hotel in DC, which is usually $195 to $240, & varies from month to month based on average lodging rates in the city. That same evening, 2 rooms were charged to the Al Thani family at rates of less than $595.

The report, which is based on #TrumpInternationalHotel room records from Sept 2017 & Aug 2018, argues that #Trump violated the #Constitution’s foreign & domestic #emoluments clauses, which were designed to prevent the president & other ofcls from #SelfEnrichment at #taxpayer expense.

The #House #Democrats’ report cites several previously undisclosed instances in which the hotel charged the #SecretService rates that were not only above normal govt per diem rates but above rates it charged others

@Strandjunker
In a "decent" world, he wouldn't even BE a candidate b/c no one would even THINK of electing a #racist, #sexist, #SerialAdulterer, #SerialSexualAssaulter, profanity spewing, #Misogynist, #conman for president.

EVEN MORE ASTOUNDING is that MILLIONS MORE would RE-elect him after he: Stole & #Mishandled #ClassifiedDocs, violated the #Emoluments Clause well over 100x, failed to fulfill a SINGLE one of his promises, ignored a #Pandemic that killed 1.2M, and crashed the global economy.

The #Constitution forbids the president from accepting #emoluments from foreign or domestic sources. Yet during #Trump’s term, #China spent >$5M on his hotels. When T-Mobile was attempting to merge w/Sprint, company execs not only made sure to stay at Trump International in DC, they posted photos of their choice on IG. The #SecretService spent ~$2M at Trump properties. Pence stayed at his boss’s golf resort on a trip to Ireland, even though it was ~200 miles from the event he was attending.

👍🏻 Via Kyle Griffin:

Rep. Jamie Raskin & Sen. Richard Blumenthal have intro’d legislation to enforce the Constitution's explicit language banning foreign #emoluments by prohibiting the President, VP, Cabinet officials and Members of Congress from accepting payments from foreign governments without first obtaining the consent of Congress.

Officials would be prohibited from accepting foreign payments without Congressional approval during the entire time in office and for two years after leaving.

The legislation is welcome, but late, & will get few R votes. #TFG may not have been elected if...

Dems introduced leg. that'd prohibit US officials from accepting$, payments or gifts from foreign govts w/o congress. consent, their response to a yearslong probe into TFG’s overseas bus dealings.

The proposal would enforce the Const’s ban on #emoluments. Dems say Trump brazenly ignored the clause as president as foreign govt officials flocked to his hotels & properties.
