ORDINARY PEOPLE (1980) is on MAX if you'd like to remember Donald Sutherland and don't have TCM.
Just make sure you're emotionally prepared.
In the middle of a run of movies including "M*A*S*H," "Kelly's Heroes" and "Don't Look Now," Donald Sutherland went to British Columbia and made two films. In "Bear Island" and "A Man, a Woman and a Bank," the New Brunswick-born actor, who died earlier this year, took on traditional leading roles instead of the offbeat parts he was known for. “It’s not so much that I’m trying to change my image, it’s more like a painter changing his style,” he told The New York Times. “I would like to be ordinary for a while." He went on to make and produce several movies in his home country. For @MONTECRISTO_mag, Sam Wiebe looks at Sutherland's career in Canada, and how his work helped establish Hollywood North.

From 2013:
#DonaldSutherland: 'I want #HungerGames to stir up a #revolution'
by Rory Carroll
November 2013
"Donald Sutherland wants to stir revolt. A real revolt. A youth-led uprising against #injustice that will overturn the US as we know it and usher in a kinder, better way. 'I hope that they will take action because it's getting drastic in this country.' Drone strikes. #Corporate tax dodging. #Racism. The #Keystone oil pipeline. Denying #FoodStamps to 'starving Americans'. It's all going to pot. 'It's not right. It's not right.'
"Millennials need awakening from slumber. 'You know the young people of this society have not moved in the last 30 years.' With the exception of #Occupy, a minority movement, passivity reigns. "They have been consumed with telephones. The voice hardens. 'Tweeting.'
"We are high up in a Four Seasons hotel overlooking Beverly Hills, sunlight glinting off mansions and boutiques below, an unlikely cradle of revolution. Sutherland, resplendent in a dark suit and red tie, is pushing 80. But he is quite serious about the call to arms. 'We did it in '68.'
"The Canadian actor has a venerable record of #leftwing #activism dating back to support for the #BlackPanthers and opposition to the #VietnamWar, but this latest foray into subversion dovetails with promoting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the second installment in a series of four films based on Suzanne Collins's bestselling novels for young adults. It takes forward the story of Katniss, played by Jennifer Lawrence, who must fight other oppressed proles to the death as part of a tyrannical government's strategy of rule through fear.
"The dystopia, called Panem, is built on the ashes of the US, and Sutherland wants young audiences to respond to the allegory. 'Hopefully they will see this film and the next film and the next film and then maybe organise. Stand up.'"

Growing up in #NYC .. there was the #Sunday Morning movie program on channel 11.
Keeping this tradition alive, I decided to watch Invasion of the Body Snatchers from 1978. Also in memory of #DonaldSutherland who passed away last week. The first time I was it was on local TV (channel 8) with my dad. Watching the movie I do not recall any of it but the ending. That was the only thing that stood out for me.. the ending was pretty fvcken scary, I was 8 years old.
Donald Sutherland never received an Oscar nomination, which Rolling Stone describes as "an indictment of how the Academy voters consistently (and shamefully) overlooked the subtle versatility of what he brought to his myriad roles." Here's their ranking of his 10 greatest performances — no mean feat, since the Canadian actor appeared in 141 films and 42 TV shows over his 60-year career.
Discussion happening at some random streaming company:
"Donald Sutherland is dead. Shouldn't we honor him?"
"Yeah, let's put up a movie he was in."
"Hmm... the only thing we have in our library is an obscure horror/porno called Dr. Terror's House of Sex."
"Yep, let's run that."
(Yes, I'm seeing some streaming outfits really struggling in their movie choices. Might as well take a dump on his grave. )

“They ask me at the border why I don't take American citizenship. I could still be Canadian, they say. You could have dual citizenship. But I say no, I'm not dual anything. I'm Canadian. There's a maple leaf in my underwear somewhere.“
Rest in Peace, #donaldsutherland
