quick intro: @inoru_no_hoshi and I are Deaf, disabled, Jewish and Jewish-ish, neurodivergent/autistic/ADHD and unemployed queers in southern California, and aside from food stamps and Medi-Cal we receive absolutely no social welfare benefits while I await any progress in my SSDI application. certainly nothing that counts as income. I'm currently pretty unemployable—all of my previous employment has been in transportation, but I can't do phones to do something like a dispatch job, and I'm permanently out of the active side of the transportation field due to disability since December 2022 when I very rapidly lost my job after an emergency room visit detected a (benign but very painful) tumor in my back (for which nothing has been able to be done except quality of life treatment to varying success)—but going back to college, and my spouse is doing a job readiness program through department of rehabilitation.
radical transparency because y'all deserve to know where the money you give us is going. unless you tell me otherwise, it'll go to whatever is the most urgent at the time, which is currently paying down credit cards as fast as possible so that we don't incur interest.
we have 1000ish dollars left to repay buying Inoru's new wheelchair.
I owe 1800 on our "general" credit card between the balance transfer and purchases we've made since then, and the more of that I can get covered the less support we need in our daily life.
and we have general needs, such as sanitary supplies and general household needs and things that must be gotten new, and food needs that aren't within our food stamps or once our food stamps benefit runs out. not to mention cat food and other cat supplies like cat litter. to the occasional new clothing (thrift shopping is untenable at the moment due to our level of precaution against COVID, what is available in our local area, and what is wheelchair accessible; not to mention the struggle of finding things that fit and are acceptable to sensory needs).
we have a general monthly need of about $300 minimum all told, and then everything on top of that goes to quality life stuff.
everything helps, from the smallest of donations to shares to large donations and anything in between. we really, really need to break out of the bubble we're in and reach some new audiences who might be able to support us, because our close friends do a lot and it's unfair for them for us to end up relying on them so much (although we're very grateful).
