If an author is white, ensure that the author is not writing on behalf of the lived experience of neurodivergent people of color, and rather only their own lived experiences. **This list is already overwhelmingly white.** - preferably do not overly center a romantic/sexual plot or self-help - preferably do have an audiobook - does not sensationalize the "supercrip" narrative of people "succeeding in capitalism-despite their disabilities" Attempts were made to vet books for positive and meaningful representation, but since I have not yet read all the books there may be gaps. For undiagnosed characters, the traits associated with coding a character with autism from the perspective of the reader may resonate more with some than others, since autism is not one singular experience and is influenced by many intersectionalities. As someone who was late-diagnosed with autism, I am looking for more books to read and share as I learn more about this identity from a new perspective. Please let me know if there are concerns with any books I listed here. Hey y'all, I'm looking for recs on books:
- fiction or non fiction
- center adults older than 18 (no YA) with autism (not just as a side note background character), bonus if it is about late-in-life diagnosis but fine if not.
- It is okay if the character isn't explicitly stated as autistic, so long as the consensus from readers who are neurodivergent is that the character is coded as neurodivergent with autism specific traits, and that the author identifies as neurodivergent
- doesn't sensationalize achievements "in spite of disability"
- preferably an author that is trans and/or BIPOC (and not a white person writing about POC, it's fine if they speak about their own lived experience)
- not overly centered on spicy romance (okay if this is a sub plot)
- preferably has an audiobook production

Yes i am looking through existing recs on bookwyrm but some of them don't have a lot of details in the reviews

Un oiseau posé sur le bord d'une petite cascade sur un cours d'eau. Un arbre sur la gauche. Au-dessus de l'eau, des brumes de vapeurs. L'eau au premier plan semble sans mouvement, tandis qu'après la cascade le cours d'eau se transforme en torrent. Sur la droite le numéro de la chronique précédé d'un dièse.
Au premier plan, un petit replat en légère pente, recouvert de végétation rase. Viennent plus loin des arbres de tailles variées, dont plusieurs conifères et feuillus. Quelques touches de végétation jaune vif, des genêts, sont visibles à gauche. Ciel complètement couvert et bas, qui masque le petit massif que l'on distingue à peine en arrière-plan.
Un petit fleuve qui circule tranquillement entre ses rives arborées. Sur l'eau, les traces d'une légère pluie. Un ciel gris et bas qui masque l'arrière-plan.
