Bob Young<p>“My daughter’s personal computer, she uses for school work, came up with needing a BitLocker recovery password.”</p><p>Over the weekend I was contacted by a dad on the other side of the country trying to locate the BitLocker key. This is a very common problem. Microsoft’s position is, “Don’t worry, we store you BitLocker keys for you in your Microsoft account!” Microsoft’s attitude seems like: “I know you’re in water over your head, and you can’t swim, and you’re drowning and choking, but don’t worry, we have life preservers right here on the boat. Come get one!” </p><p>The reality is that many people have no idea what to do when faced with this challenge.</p><p>You must protect yourself. Get your BitLocker recovery key for every BitLocker device, and store it safely yourself. You can find information on how to get your recovery key by searching for “find my BitLocker recovery key,” or a similar phrase, using any search engine.</p><p>If you don’t want to do that, contact me, and I’ll help you get your BitLocker key(s) for a very reasonable fee.</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/CallMeIfYouNeedMe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CallMeIfYouNeedMe</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/FIFONetworks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FIFONetworks</span></a></p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/BitLocker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BitLocker</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/HelpDesk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HelpDesk</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/TechSupport" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TechSupport</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/RemoteSupport" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RemoteSupport</span></a></p>

🌈 Kerblambuli 🦄<p>Just got autocorrected by my phone. I wanted to write <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/bitlocker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bitlocker</span></a> PIN but sent an IM stating <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/bootlicker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bootlicker</span></a> and I dunno what to say.</p>

🧿🪬🍄🌈🎮💻🚲🥓🎃💀🏴🛻🇺🇸<p>I think today is the day that I install the new CPU/RAM in my gaming PC. I've been sitting on a new 5900X and 64GB of DDR4 for a couple months because I'm always nervous about spreading new thermal paste. The specter of losing the 72TB of pirated videogames due to some weird bitlocker problem always looms.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pcBuilding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pcBuilding</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/computer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computer</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/hardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hardware</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ryzen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ryzen</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bitlocker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bitlocker</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ddr4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ddr4</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>windows</span></a></p>
Multi Purr Puss :verified:<p>...🧵 Where does this most annoying of operating systems (not counting TempleOS here) even store the keys?!?</p><p>Shouldn't I, the User, the owner of the data, know a little detail like this?!</p><p>It's MY FSCKING DATA, for fox sake! I WANT to access it how ever i see fit! 🤬 </p><p>As far as i'm concerned, <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Windows10" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Windows10</span></a> has become a crypto Trojan <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Malware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Malware</span></a>. As i said before - i've NEVER instructed Windows to <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/BitLocker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BitLocker</span></a> encrypt my files!</p>
Multi Purr Puss :verified:<p>...🧵 "manage-bde.exe -off &lt;drive letter&gt;" seems to do something - there's a bunch of activity on the storage now. <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/BitLocker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BitLocker</span></a></p>
