"I keep using the phrase #CommonSense because it really annoys me that populist politicians have stolen it to describe protecting an unsustainable status quo. I'm aggressively ripping the words common sense out of the hands of the people who've been abusing those words & using them to lie to you."

"In Paris they said 'we're going to address this really obvious thing of air pollution where you could almost chew the air in Paris because there's so many cars. And we're going to lead with that. And #QualityOfLife. Cleaning up #AirPollution. Better health. And of course it relates to climate.'"

"My biggest faith is in cities as they're more pragmatic & common sense & have the ability, like #Paris ‪Mayor #AnneHidalgo did, to say yes we're going to address #ClimateChange in our #CityBuilding & address these really obvious problems like air pollution."

"The great failings in our willingness to act are largely at the national level. Too much talking not enough acting. That's true of some cities too. How many cities have declared climate emergencies then not really changed much at all. But generally, the more inspiring leadership comes from cities."

I was cycling to work this morning, stopped at a red light, noticed a dark thing flying, almost got sucked into the engine of a massive truck. But then seconds later it fluttered towards me and landed on my knee... Look at this gorgeous thing!

I don't know much about butterflies, so I looked up this one and it's a male Eastern-tailed Blue Butterfly, a common butterfly species across North America.

"It's not just #ClimateAdaptation but #Mitigation because we're still determining on a day to day basis how bad the #climate circumstances we face will be. The longer we fail to take better action, the worse it's going to be for us. Our first goal has to be mitigation and then adaptation too."

"To address #ClimateChange we have to address where most people live, which is our cities & our car-dependant suburbs. We need to make them much better if we are to stand a chance of making real, fast, bold, aggressive moves towards not just #ClimateAdaptation but critically, #Climatemitigation."

"The role #CityBuilding plays in #ClimateAction can't be overstated. Almost nothing we can collectively do has a greater impact on our climate future than how we build & plan cities. It really determines our future because that's where most of the greenhouse gas emissions are generated."

"I can be very critical of the city planning profession. We should be leaders. Too often city planners have the rap of being a bureaucrat, a technocrat, or the profession gets portrayed as just mind numbingly boring. Cities are inherently interesting, fascinating, sexy & exciting things!"

"With Alberta’s municipal elections fast approaching, who better to have on than #BrentToderian to tell us what types of climate solutions we can apply at the local level for a safe & prosperous #ClimateSmart future & what types of policies must we avoid at all costs"

"Today on The #ClimateLens, we welcome one of Canada's top urbanists (& at this point I think we have to say one of the world's top urbanists) #BrentToderian who has been shaping conversations around smart, #sustainable cities for decades, including right here in Calgary!"
